Thank You for Today

If you need proof that Death Cab for Cutie have not moved forward the past thirteen years, compare the opening of 'Your Hurricane' to 2005's 'Summer Skin'. It shows two things: First, they sure know how to nail the simplistic, emotional end of the indie spectrum. Second, they know little else.

Plans (2005) was once a favourite album. More like scratching an itch than truly challenging, but pulling just the right strings. It's music for people who don't love music. In a good way. When not done properly, the deadpan vocals and clumsy stabs at memorable basslines are just a little sad.
